Michael T. White Memorial Foundation

The Michael T. White Memorial Scholarship was designed to provide a child playing recreational soccer; that has the skills to play with a club level team; that cannot due to financial complications; the opportunity to do so.

This scholarship is designed to help a child with exceptional or advanced skills to play at a more competitive level. It is our hope that by enabling a child to play on a club team we will be able to pave the way to athletic opportunities that would not have been available playing at the lower skill levels.

Playing soccer on a club team, kids are introduced to a more advanced training that focuses on a team concept. A more knowledgable coaching staff surrounds the players, which provides a broader field of learning for the players.

Club teams travel and play other high talent teams.

Playing against other kids who are highly proficient increases the skill of the kids because they are constantly learning from one another.

Players increase physical and mental skills.

Players have to think fast and perform well against opponents of equal caliber that makes the players playing at club level, highly covetable to numerous athletic institutions.

Description Of Scholarship

One player will be selected at the beginning of each season for the full scholarship. The winner will receive a full scholarship the first year playing for FC Frederick and provided a brand new pair of boots (cleats). Scholarship may be extended for 50% of the tuition for every season after the first year playing with FC Frederick. In order to have the scholarship extended; the player must complete an overall evaluation at the end of each season to determine if all qualifications and expectations of the commitment to the scholarship program were met. It is important to have the foundation represented by individuals who demonstrate respect, outstanding character, and a love for the game. The number of players that will have scholarships renewed will depend on the evaluations at the end of the season. Players that demonstrate an exceptional devotion to the sport and set an example for his or her teammates to follow will receive a renewal of scholarship.

Scholarship Requirements

· U-9 through U-16 player status
· Shows skill that demonstrates ability to play at FC Fredericks Club Level
· Devoted to sport; by attending practices, games, and other team events
· Exhibits outstanding character and attitude
· Maintains minimum grade average of 2.5
· Demonstrates financial need by having a combined family income of $80,000 or less gross income.
· Letter of nomination by coach and or community member that can objectively express why the child deserves the scholarship
· Letter from player seeking scholarship describing why he or she believes that he or she should receive the scholarship

Once the finalists are selected:

The coach, foundation staff, and two advisors will observe the candidate at all tryouts.
The advisors are seperate from the coaching staff and the foundation and will help to evaluate the level of skill, character, and personality of each individual competitor for the scholarship.
